The Eureka & Palisade Railroad was a bonanza railroad with such shareholders as William Sharon, Isaac Requa, and Darius O. Mills. These men are legendary in the railroad and mining communities of Nevada. And once again they hit the jackpot.
Conceived in 1873 and finished in 1875, for ten years this line reaped great rewards on the men who envisioned and financed it. But like all bonanza lines, the gold and silver did not last forever. In 1888 it instituted tri-weekly service. On June 13, 1900 the railroad went into receivership. On July 10, 1901 it was purchased and renamed the Eureka & Palisade Railway.
In 1938 the railroad closed its doors.
Still, why would anyone ever want this time schedule? It is not early and it is in absolutely terrible shape.
But it is a authentic railroad time table from one of Nevada's most famous narrow gauge lines. It also holds an interesting place in history. Although the time table is for the Eureka & Palisade Railroad, the line was under receivership and the name would be changed in six months.
But the real reason to value this piece is on the reverse. It contains the tonnage information for the year ending on June 30, 1903 - the first full year of the Eureka & Palisade Railway. Tonnage that included 15,000 tons (?) from Union to Palisade and 420 beef from Hay Ranch to Palisade. Also 100 sugar, 200 feed, 100 flour, and 40 liquor from Eureka to Alpha. Also shipped were hides, eggs, wagons, fruits, vegetables, hardware goods, and scrap iron. Finally there was 50 beef shipped from Hay Ranch to Stone House. Stone House isn't even on the time table, but the train must have stopped there!
